If you’re anything like me (with chronic wanderlust), you’ve probably wondered what happens when the ocean’s waves meet the wild West spirit. Zoe and Loren’s beachy cowboy wedding with equine guest appearances gave us all the answers—and oh, how beautifully they mixed!
As a Santa Cruz western wedding photographer, I’ve captured some truly remarkable love stories. But every once in a while, a wedding comes along that leaves a lasting impression on my heart. Zoe and Loren’s wedding was one of those magical days. Every detail was infused with their adventurous spirits and love for the great outdoors–and each other.
Zoe and Loren are the ultimate outdoor enthusiasts, a duo that blends passion with play. They’ve surfed, climbed, and ridden horseback together, each adventure deepening their bond. Zoe, with her fiery red hair and zest for life, mirrors the spirited nature of Loren’s horse—a loyal and independent soul you just can’t help but love. Loren’s profound love for Zoe was evident in every glance and touch. Their connection a joy to witness and an honor to photograph.
Their journey to say “I do” began with a laidback beach ceremony at a secluded Aptos state beach. The setting was simply breathtaking. Waves crashed gently on the shore, the sun cast a warm, golden glow, and a soft breeze carried whispers of the ocean. She met her teary-eyed groom between two surfboards draped in tropical florals as the wedding arch. It was the perfect backdrop for their heartfelt vows, each word tugging at the heartstrings of everyone present. As I clicked away, capturing candid shots of their joy and laughter, I couldn’t help but feel the love and excitement radiating from them.
After their Aptos state beach ceremony, the celebration moved to Corralitos, where the real magic happened. The Good Spirit Horsemanship Center hosted their reception. This special place not only houses their beloved horses but also serves as a therapeutic horse center. How amazing is that? Zoe and Loren brought their Western spirit to life with cowboy-inspired decor. The ambient string lights with twine, Aztec blankets, custom hats, and rustic elements made it a scene straight out of a romantic country fairytale.
One of the day’s highlights was capturing the candid motion shots with their horses. Watching Zoe and Loren train and ride with such joy and freedom was a reminder of how beautifully their love story has unfolded. As much a part of their journey as anything else, the horses seemed to revel in the celebration, adding an extra layer of magic to the day. (As a note, I am all in if you want to include your horse for wedding photos like these!)
When the sun dipped below the horizon, the dance floor came alive under a canopy of stars. Zoe switched into a gorgeous western-style dress while Loren donned a handsome black suit. The sandy starlit dance floor was the perfect setting for their first dance—a moment that genuinely encapsulated their love story. With their closest friends and family gathered around, Zoe and Loren swayed to their song while giggles and happiness overflowed.
For couples torn between a breezy beach wedding and a romantic cowboy celebration, take it from Zoe and Loren: you absolutely can have both! Their day was a testament to the joy that comes from following your heart and embracing every aspect of yourself, even if that means stepping outside the traditional box. By blending their passions and personalities, they created a wedding that was uniquely theirs—a day that reflected their journey and the love that binds them.
I am so grateful to have been part of Zoe and Loren’s incredible day. If you’re dreaming of a wedding that captures your adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors, I’d be thrilled to help you tell your story.
And to Zoe and Loren, thank you for letting me capture your incredible journey. May your days be filled with endless adventures, laughter, and love as boundless as the sea.
Until next time, keep chasing those dreams!
XOXO,
Natasha, A Santa Cruz Wedding Photographer Who’s Still Dreaming of That Starlit Dance Floor 🌊🤠
