Santa Cruz City Hall offers an amazing opportunity for a meaningful ceremony and elopement without all the bells and whistles of a large wedding ceremony. Olivia and Jake chose this spot for their intimate ceremony, and the day proved that a wedding does not need to be large to feel significant. I photographed their elopement on both film and digital, and now that the film images are back from the lab, the warmth and character of film stand out even more.
Their ceremony stayed simple but carried real emotion. They asked only their closest friends to come as witnesses. Olivia and Jake moved through the day at their own pace, surrounded by genuine connection rather than a packed schedule. They both have such ease around each other.

After the ceremony, we drove to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for portraits. The Boardwalk brings energy and color to any photo session. Its rides, ocean breeze, and bright signage create a backdrop unlike anywhere else on the California coast. Olivia and Jake felt relaxed in front of the camera, and their natural confidence gave every shot a stylish, lived in feel.
Shooting on both film and digital let this session tell a fuller story. Digital catches fast, candid moments as they happen. Film slows the pace and adds a softness that gives the day a timeless quality. The skin tones and light from the film images bring out the warmth of the morning, and together the two formats create a gallery that feels both current and classic.

We spent time on small details throughout the day. Ring shots, quiet in between moments, and the sweetness with their friends. Flowers from The Flower Shack brought color to the day, and hair styling by Staci added an effortless finish to Olivia’s look.

If you’re picturing a Santa Cruz elopement that mixes candid moments with bold portraits at the Boardwalk, this day shows what that can look like. A blend of film and digital photography creates a collection that feels romantic, authentic, and true to your story.
Let’s talk about your elopement.
Planning Your Santa Cruz City Hall Elopement
Couples who want to marry at Santa Cruz City Hall should know the marriage license process ahead of time. Book your appointment online and visit the County Clerk’s office together to get your marriage license before the ceremony. You’ll also need to arrange a City Clerk or an authorized officiant familiar with the space, and you should plan for the fees tied to both the ceremony and the witness requirement. Taking care of these steps early makes the day run smoothly. And I would love to help tell your story!
