A Wedding at the Pelican Inn in Marin County

Couple kissing at their wedding the end of the aisle at Pelican Inn

The Pelican Inn sits in the hills of Marin County, just north of San Francisco, with a setting that feels like a slice of the English countryside. A and R chose this historic inn for their wedding, and the venue delivered every bit of the warmth and character it’s known for. Timeless architecture, lush green grounds, and golden light at sunset gave the day a quality that felt both elegant and welcoming.

A and R exchanged vows as the sun began to set, and light spread across the venue in warm, golden tones. The Pelican Inn has hosted weddings for years, and its history adds a layer of depth that newer venues simply can’t match. Every corner of the property carries that same warmth, from the cozy interior rooms to the open lawn where the ceremony took place.

I photographed this wedding on 35mm and 120 film throughout the day. Film captures the small imperfections and soft tones that make a wedding day feel real, and those qualities came through in every frame from this celebration. The joy between A and R felt genuine from start to finish. Their families and friends carried that same energy, and it showed in the way everyone moved through the day together.

The connection between A and R stood out throughout the celebration. They moved through the day present with each other, and that connection translated directly into the photographs. Moments like these remind me why documentary style photography works so well for weddings. The real moments carry more weight than anything posed.

The Pelican Inn brought its own character to the day. The lavish yet cozy decor, the outdoor lawn, and the intimate interior spaces gave every part of the celebration a distinct feel. By the time the last dance ended, the night had built into something the couple and their guests will carry with them for years.

If you’re planning a wedding at the Pelican Inn or anywhere in Marin County, I’d love to help you plan your photography. I shoot in a documentary style with a mix of film and digital that captures real connection as it happens.

Let’s talk about your wedding.

Planning Your Pelican Inn Wedding

The Pelican Inn works well for couples who want an intimate celebration. The outdoor lawn ceremony area and the Snug Room give you two distinct settings, and both spaces can host up to about 75 guests for the ceremony and reception. Coordinate early with the Events Coordinator, Andrea Papadopulos, to line up logistics, including in-house catering and bar service. Early planning here makes the day run smoothly from start to finish.
